Route Kasteel wijlre Estate

The route Cools takes you on through the estate is the walk he first made when exploring the garden for host plants for butteries. This first inventory provides a picture of the butterfly species possibly present on the estate. A host plant is a plant caterpillars eat once hatched. Many butterflies have only one type of host plant; without this, the butterfly cannot reproduce. To continue his research on meconium, Cools uses this inventory of the estate’s host plants and related butterfly species so that, throughout the year, he can investigate whether indeed caterpillars emerge on the host plants.
